Text to Binary Converter

Every character you type on a keyboard is represented internally by a number (ASCII or Unicode code point). Our Text to Binary converter takes any text string and shows you the binary, hexadecimal, octal, and decimal representations of each character. This is fundamental knowledge for computer science students, developers debugging character encoding issues, and anyone curious about how computers represent text.

How Binary Encoding Works

Each character is first converted to its ASCII or Unicode code point (a decimal number). That decimal number is then expressed in different numerical bases: Binary (base 2) uses only 0s and 1s. Hexadecimal (base 16) uses digits 0–9 and letters A–F, giving a compact representation. Octal (base 8) uses digits 0–7. For standard ASCII characters, each binary representation is 8 bits (a byte) long.

Decoding Binary Back to Text

The right-side input allows you to decode binary code back to text. Enter space-separated 8-bit binary groups (like "01001000 01100101 01101100 01101100 01101111" for "Hello") and the tool will display the decoded text. This is useful for educational exercises, puzzle solving, and understanding binary data formats.
